California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a law last week allowing ownership of the prime beachfront property, formerly Bruce's Beach to be transferred to heirs of a couple who built a resort for Black people in the early 1900s but were stripped of the land by local officials due to eminent domain.
The Martinsville Seven were a group of seven African-American men from Martinsville, Virginia, who were convicted and executed in 1951 for raping a white woman in 1949.On August 31, 2021, the state of Virginia pardoned the convictions of all Seven men, 70 years after their deaths.
